DIY Natural Fabric Softener

Believe it or not, fabric softener is one of the most toxic household items that you can use for yourself and your family.  Most fabric softeners, even though they smell REALLY good, are loaded with toxic chemicals (including hazardous waste) that can cause central nervous system disorders, cancer, reproductive system problems, respiratory problems, skin irritation and more.  For more information on this, read this article.

Even before I created R Devine Skin Care, I became consciously aware of what I was putting on (and in) myself and my family. I’ve been making my own fabric softener for several years and it’s really simple.  You should try it.  It’s completely natural and it won’t put your health at risk. It will remove odours from of your clothes and your clothes will come out soft.

DIY Fabric Softener

What You’ll Need:
~2 Tbsp White Vinegar (don’t worry, your clothes won’t smell like a fry truck)
~4 Tbsp Hot Water
~50 drops of Your Favourite Essential Oil (I use either Lavender, Ylang-Ylang or Grapefruit)

What You’ll Do:
~Mix all of the ingredients together and add to the fabric softener area in your washing machine with each load.

Enjoy having your mind at ease that you’re using fabric softener that is safe and healthy!
