Why don’t I use water in R Devine Skin Care products? I bet the answer to this will not be what you think.
Where ever there is water, mould and bacteria have the opportunity to grow. So a preservative in water-based skin care is necessary to kill any bacteria that could potentially grow in that product.
Knowing this, a preservative sounds like a good idea, right? Hmmm, think again…
The problem is, we have a really delicate microbiome on our skin, containing really beneficial bacteria that balance the skin, increase the skin’s immunity, and take care of bad bacteria and viruses for us. Just like how our gut needs beneficial bacteria, so does the skin.
When we use water-based products on the skin, those products are preserved (whether or not the skin care companies choose to list those on the ingredient label is another story), and are formulated to not allow any bacteria to grow inside the bottle.
Do you see the connection yet?
Every time you use skin care products on your skin (face and body) that contain preservatives, you’re actually not only killing the bacteria within the product, you’re also killing the beneficial bacteria on your skin, opening your skin up to increased sensitivity, increased bacteria invasion and increased inflammation.
Check the labels on all of your skin care products. Do they contain water? Because if they do, they’re not as beneficial for your skin as you may think.
Heavily preserved/processed food is bad for our gut health for this very reason… it kills the good bacteria that keeps our immune system strong. And heavily preserved skin care is not any better for our skin. In fact, it’s exactly the same.
The human body recognizes nature and knows exactly what to do with it when we feed it nature and treat it with nature. The human body’s immune system is designed to attack anything that it does not recognize. So if you’re feeding your body and/or your skin with ingredients that are not from nature, you can be sure that your immune system will be attacking it. But how can it have the strength to kill it when we’re continuously killing all the good bacteria that keeps us strong?
So, why do skin care companies use water if this is the case?
Sadly, most people in the beauty industry are completely unaware that there even is healthy bacteria on the skin. In aesthetics school, we are taught to force the skin in unnaural way in order to get results. I was taught this way, but after seeing that this method never created long-term results for my clients or myself, I was determined to find another way. The big companies care about profits more than anything, and because water and preservatives are so inexpensive, it’s a lot more profitable for them to fill a bottle with 80% water than to fill it with 100% organic plant-based ingredients.
Biologically, we come from nature, so we need nature to heal the human body. Nature heals. Synthetic chemicals do not!
